A significant number of environmental investigations and studies have been performed on the land within and adjacent to Providence’s I-195 Redevelopment District. These investigations, conducted by multiple parties during different stages of the highway relocation and redevelopment planning process, have resulted in an understanding of the environmental conditions and the associated regulatory and financial implications.

A Stormwater Master Plan (SWMP) was developed to provide a mechanism for obtaining stormwater permit approvals for the I-195 Redevelopment District through the Rhode Island Coastal Resources Management Council (CRMC) and the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (RIDEM) within 30 days of certification of a complete application. The SWMP applies the state’s stormwater management standards District-wide rather than on an individual parcel basis, and also applies to any parcels that abut a District parcel and are assembled under common ownership.
